About Us

“ My name is Andy Ackerman and I am the Chair of the Peace Crossing Historical Society. I have lived in the Peace since 1985 and have been very involved in the communities of Fort St John and Taylor. History of an area is always important to me as it provides us with an important base to work from. I joined the Peace Crossing Board a few years ago as I was very interested in the history of Taylor. My vision for the Society is that we will have a permanent place to store and display historical documents, pictures and artifacts of the history of Taylor. We will also continuously work on projects that will highlight our heritage that will connect our young with our seniors.”

My name is Doreen Alexander Bowe. I was Born in Fort St John, BC with my whole life in and around Taylor. I was one of six kids in my family growing up. I went to Taylor Elementary when I was starting out my school years, then NPSS in Fort St John. My family bought a farm when I was young, I was raised on that farm.

The Idea of PCHS first came to be when I had went to Taylor council to get support for a Taylor History Book. That ended up leading us to where we are now

-Ryan Galay-

"Ryan has been with the Peace Crossing Historic Society since March of 2021. He is most proud of being a part of the "Veterans Project" at the Taylor Cemetery where along with founding member, Wally Pohlmann, they had a sign constructed to show the burial plots of War Veterans. Ryan is currently the Secretary for the Society."

-Josh Kirschner-

I'm 36 years old. I was born and raised in this area. My wife and I both live and work in Taylor, have a bunch of kids and we absolutely love it here. I am fascinated by the history of this region and seek to spread interest and awareness of our long history here.

My name is Ryan White, I am 19 years old, and a new member of the Peace Crossing Historical Society. As long as I can remember, I’ve always had a fascination for history. It has always been super fun and enjoyable to learn the mistakes, the good, the bad and progress civilization has had in the past to now. I was born is St Johns, Newfoundland but raised in Taylor since I was three. I have had nothing but love for this town and can’t wait to share the stories of the great people who helped found Taylor and the Peace Region.

Roxanne Chmelyk

Maiden name is Roxanne Rogers, I have lived in the North since 1956 and in Taylor since 1995. I came from a family of eight siblings, friends for life. Big families are the best. I was married in the north and two years latter we started our family of five, three boys and two girls. I love the valley and all its beauty, the warmth, the fruit trees, berries and amazing gardens. I love the community it offers something special in in every aspect of recreation, faith, and togetherness which enhances the well-being of all ages. The history from all over the Peace, the Old Forts, the old roadhouses and saloons. The Gold Panning  and parades, pancake breakfasts, hockey, sledding, fishing,  skating, golfing, fireworks, walkways, clean sidewalks,  community BBQ's. I do miss the Gulf Ball which put our course on the map. The artifacts picked up over time, wagon wheels, old luggage, dishes and pots, parts of caravans, the revelation of the intensity of the terrain, the feats and accomplishments, the old gold rush trails that tell the tale of the hardships and determination in the quest for gold. My vision now for our community is to move forward and bring businesses, better transportation, senior affordable homes, and a children's care facility where the old and young can come together to learn and appreciate the wealth of information that can be passed on from the elderly to the youth. The rebirth of the past through story, song, photography and artifacts..
